| Facebook is a social phenomenon. The site, www.facebook.com, was launched fewer than 10 years ago as a place for college students to connect and post photos. The idea quickly took off, and today the site has more than 500 million users — young and old. While most people like to use it to post personal photos of friends and families, the site also can be an excellent resource for job seekers. “Managers and executives at companies around the world are posting jobs in Facebook,” said Barbara Rozgonyi, principal of CoryWest Media, a social media marketing company based in Wheaton. “Most people search for jobs on LinkedIn or Monster, but it is important to know you can also look on Facebook.” Here are a few ways to find jobs on Facebook: Use the search bar On the top of every Facebook page there is a search bar. Rozgonyi recommends typing in the word “marketplace” into that field. “Marketplace is a classified listing site,” she said. “Click on ‘jobs’ and you can search for positions in specific locations. You can refine your search by keyword, work experience and education. On the left, you will find the names of jobs and number of positions available in any given area. It is a great resource.” Visit corporate pages Just like almost every company has a general Web page, almost every company also has a Facebook page. According to Steve Raquel, president and owner of IOV Media, a social media marketing consultancy based in Naperville, it is wise to search for your target company’s page and click on the “like” button at the top of the page. By doing this, you will become a fan of the company and their postings will appear on your home page each time you log in to Facebook. Read More...
